Character NAME: Tateyama Ayano (Western: Ayano Tateyama)
Canon & MEDIUM: Kagerou Project. Manga/Novels/Songs.
Canon PULL-POINT: Past Ayano’s Koufukuriron (post death).
Character AGE: 16
Character ABILITIES: “Considering Eyes” but these have not been explained yet. Therefore Ayano will come to Exsilium without an eye ability, and her eyes will be black. If/when more about her is revealed she might be canon updated accordingly.
Character HISTORY:
Ayano’s past is not well explored, mainly due to the fact she is a character that was already dead when most of the story takes part. What we know is that Ayano was Shintaro’s classmate before he decided to isolate himself in his house (and that her death was the cause of his isolation). But let’s try to put things in order.
For an unspecified amount of time, Ayano had been tasked with taking care of three children that had been in an orphanage in place of her mother Ayaka, who had decided to look after them after a friend talked to her about them, but had recently died in an expedition. This children were Kano, Kido and Seto; seeing how they were always depressed about the strange abilities they had, Ayano came up with the idea to make them a “hero team” in order to make them feel special, using the excuse that “red is the color of heroes”, since their eyes were red. This was the beginning of the Mekakushi Dan, with Ayano as the founding member (number zero) and leader. She’s also the one that got them their hoodies.
Meanwhile in school, Shintaro Kisaragi was a proficient student that got top marks, while Ayano was never a good student, despite the fact she was the daughter of a teacher in their school. They had been friends from quite a while as well. While Shintaro was always surly and depressed, Ayano would usually support and cheer him up, always showing a happy and upbeat front, even when her grades were awful; Ayano would usually call herself an idiot and make jokes about her in an attempt to keep Shintaro from being too depressed.
Both Shintaro and Ayano knew Enemoto Takane before she was turned into Ene, as well as Haruka before he was turned into Konoha, since they went to the same school, but both of them were in a special class since they both were particularly weak; Ayano was well aware of Takane’s attraction to Haruka, and encouraged her to tell him what she felt now and then.
Ayano had her own demons to deal with though; both her grades and the somewhat recent death of her mother, coupled with how her father was becoming more and more detached and focused on his projects were taking its toll, not to mention she didn’t speak of such things with anyone. She especially hid it from Shintaro, not wanting to put more pressure on him. Even though he did find her crying once, she made sure he didn’t find out why. Things started to get even worse when she found out about her father’s work with the kids, and what the red eyes meant, as well as his plans for them; these plans haven’t been fully revealed, but it’s enough of a good guess to assume it involved killing them or exploiting them in some way. Being the self-appointed “big sister” of the three kids, Ayano couldn’t let that stand.
That basically drove her to the edge; well aware that the Mekakushi Dan members were in danger, she decided to go and try to get the eyes herself, in order to both keep her father’s attention away from them and to obtain a power that might help her help the others. Because of this, Ayano had no better idea than to jump from her school’s rooftop. The details of how to obtain the red eyes haven’t been made clear; either one needs to have a near death experience or actually die for a little while, and even then it’s not like everyone would get a power just because. It has to do, in some way, with Azami, a medusa that apparently lives in another world.
The thing is, Ayano did die from the jump, at least apparently. There are too many details not explained yet regarding this; to make it even more complicated, the fact that Ayano is listed as someone with red eyes and therefore powers make it seem like she might have survived in some way. Whatever the case, it was seen as a suicide; coupled with her depression and inner problems, it’s probable that Ayano wasn’t all that far from actually doing something like that, although whether it was a misunderstanding or a mix of both is hard to tell. And that’s basically all about Ayano so far.
Character PERSONALITY:
To the outside world, Ayano is a happy, bubbly and caring girl. She always looks out for others and is very good at reading people, getting to know them intimately quickly and gaining a good level of understanding just by being around them for a little while. Although usually clumsy and a bit of an air head, Ayano is a surprisingly insightful person; she’s very bad when it comes to actually expressing her knowledge, and she usually gets terrible grades. Her empathy is the better side of her though, proven with the way she related and helped the Mekakushi Dan kids, as well as her relationship with Shintaro. She’s very creative and assertive, and might surprise others with bursts of wisdom that contrast her usual carefree behavior.
In reality, Ayano is a seriously depressed person. Born into a family that loved her, but ultimately fell apart put a lot of pressure in her and gave her responsibilities she didn’t ask for and maybe wasn’t ready to take helped create a pattern in which she takes upon herself to make things better for those around her, disregarding her own desires. Used to be the “mom” of people around her, Ayano is quick to disregard her own desires for the sake of the rest, usually keeping her own fears and doubts to herself, or ridiculing them to make it look less serious than they actually are. She’s very good at putting up an act, but the damage is there nonetheless. She suffers not only due to her own problems, but the problems of the people she loves…and Ayano can’t help but love everyone she gets close to. Her depression mainly steams from the fact she feels the responsibility and obligation of taking care of a lot of things at the same time, usually being understandably incapable of doing everything right. Feelings of uselessness and helplessness are coming within her, but as mentioned, her decision of not being burden to others pushes her to act and be stronger than she actually is, which wears her down rapidly.
Ayano knows her own limitations, although she doesn’t let other people see just how much they affect her to the point she appears to be very reliable; even when presented with the task of taking care of three younger children she managed not only to make sure they were okay physically, but also emotionally, giving them a new outlook in life and helping them become a team and learn to take care of each other. Despite this, Ayano was too harsh with herself, the low self-image she had making her think she didn’t have a chance to be someone “especial” for Shintaro, to the point she was convinced that her being around him was more of a selfish thing to do rather than actually helping him. Prone to sacrificing herself for the sake of others, Ayano is the kind of person that inspires both respect and care, but who can’t look past her own limitations at times.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON:
Scarf: Ayano’s scarf has been infused. Besides always being fresh and clean, it allows her to absorb all kinds of energy into it, be it kinetic or the kind used in ranged attacks, thus rendering her unharmed. Ayano can channel this stored energy both in the shape of an energy beam of her own (its power depending on how much stored energy the scarf has absorbed) or pour it into someone, healing them from wounds and diseases, the more severe the wound the longer the healing process and the more energy demanding it would be . The more she uses the scarf, the more energy it will be capable of storing. The scarf itself is hard to harm due to its ability to absorb energy, but if torn it will slowly repair itself, or Ayano can use the stored energy to speed up the repair process.
Character INVENTORY:
High School clothes, scarf, cell phone.

Um, hello! [ The video starts with Ayano sitting somewhere, which looks like the wall of an old house. It’s hard to tell because most of the city kind of looks the same.
And there’s a cat sniffing her, but Ayano is ignoring him. ]
I guess I should introduce myself…my name is Ayano. Tateyama Ayano. Nice to meet you! [ She’s really cheery, yep.]
I just got here and I guess I had a lady telling me what is going on but…I think I zoned out? And then there were all these people and I just kept walking and now…now…
[ She looks around, the cheery expression changing slowly into an embarrassed one. ]
I’m kind of lost!? Everything looks the same here. I’m a bit dumb for this kind of thing. [ She never stopped smiling, by the way. And she’ll probably call herself dumb a lot. ]
So if someone could tell me where the rooms are…or where the place with all the people is, I would be very thankful! In your debt, even! I’m a great cook, I’m sure I could repay you with food…if you have food. Now I’m getting a big hungry.
[ Right on cue, her stomach growls. ]
Anyway hi! I hope we all get along.
[ She’s going to get along with everyone whether they do or not anyway. And that’s it. The video ends with her cooing at the cat and lifting it ]
